Enderby standoff ends with arrest of suspect hiding in RV

A 40-year-old Enderby man was arrested on New Year's day following a standoff with police after the prolific offender hid in an RV.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, the incident took place at approximately 6 p.m. after police got a call that someone was driving an ATV erratically on George Street in Enderby.

When officers arrived in the area they discovered an ATV idling on a property in the 700 block of Cliff Avenue. On seeing police, the suspect fled on foot heading to the rear of the property where he attempted to hide in an RV.

During this time, police had confirmed that the man was also responsible for a break and enter to a residence earlier that afternoon in the 3600 block of Trinity Valley Road in Ashton Creek.

Officers informed the suspect he was under arrest and communicated with him from outside the RV.

"During the incident, the man began to allegedly antagonize and throw various items at our officers," Vernon North Okanagan RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in a media release. "In the face of the dangerous actions of the suspect, officers on scene maintained control of the situation and continued efforts to de-escalate, and bring a safe conclusion to the incident."

The suspect then left the trailer, running from police but the RCMP Police Dog Services caught up with him and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The RCMP say the 40-year-old Enderby man remains in custody and faces a number of potential charges. Police describe the suspect as a "prolific offender."
