Homicide probe after man found dead in burning home in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY — Homicide officers have taken over the investigation into the discovery of a man’s body inside a burning home in Surrey, B.C., early on Monday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says in a statement that it is now leading the probe into the death of the man found inside the home in the 12700 block of 56 Avenue.

Surrey police had said earlier that emergency responders answered the call reporting the fire at about 7 a.m., and firefighters then found the man’s body while searching the engulfed home for victims.

Police had initially said serious crime investigators were brought in to assist the coroner and firefighters in determining if foul play was involved in the death.

The cause of the fire has also not been determined.

Local roads in the area of the fire had to be shut down during the firefighting operation, and police are urging anyone with information on the case to contact investigators.
