Guns and drugs seized in RCMP raid on home in Kelowna

RCMP officers descended on a home in Kelowna Tuesday as part of a months-long drug trafficking investigation.

Members of the RCMP drug section, crime reduction unit and traffic section along officers with the heavily-armed emergency response team executed a search warrant at a home on Minehill Drive in Kelowna, Jan. 20, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Jan. 22.

“This is part of an ongoing investigation aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks operating in West Kelowna and residing in Kelowna,” Cpl. Shaun Achtymichuk with the drug section said in the release.

Three people inside the home were released from custody while two others connected to the home were arrested in the Enterprise Way area in Kelowna. The pair of suspects were later released from custody pending approval of charges.

During the raid officers seized two shotguns, a semi‑automatic AR-style rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, a revolver, four electric stun prods, thousands of round of ammunition, around $1,100 in cash, 15 grams of crack cocaine, cocaine and fentanyl, two vehicles, a large quantity of designer purses and bags, and a military grade ballistic helmet.

“The presence of illegal firearms and dangerous drugs in our communities poses a serious risk to public safety. Our officers remain committed to targeting those who choose to engage in criminal activity and bringing these investigations forward for charge consideration,” West Kelowna detachment commander Staff Sgt. Brenda Dolan said in the release.
