Salmon Arm RCMP use spike belt to apprehend ‘erratic’ driver

Salmon Arm RCMP used a spike belt to stop an "erratic" driver on Highway 1 last night.

The vehicle was being driven into oncoming lanes between Sicamous and Salmon Arm. Officers caught up to the vehicle near Canoe, B.C. and it matched the description of another vehicle that fled from police recently.

They used the spike belt to disable the suspect's vehicle which stopped in a snow bank on 10th Avenue SE in Salmon Arm and the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect was apprehended near 37 Street East after a struggle with the officer, according to an RCMP press release.

The driver was arrested on outstanding warrants related to drug and driving related offences. He is now in custody.
