Two seniors killed in North Okanagan RV fire

A recreation vehicle fire in the North Okanagan Saturday night claimed the lives of two senior citizens.

Fire crews from the Silver Creek and Falkland fire departments were called to the RV fire at around 8:30 p.m., Jan. 24, in the Yankee Flats area, according to a Columbia Shuswap Regional District media release. The regional district didn’t provide a street address.

A resident who called 911 said the RV was in flames and burning inside.

The RV, which had been modified with add-ons, was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Two occupants were found inside once the fire was out.

An investigation is underway by both the Office of the Fire Commissioner and the BC Coroner’s Service.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of these two people,” Columbia Shuswap regional fire chief Sean Coubrough said in the release.

“The hearts of all our firefighters go out to their family and friends. They are in our thoughts, and we share in their grief.”
