Positive COVID-19 case at Barriere’s high school

Barriere Secondary School has issued a warning that a member of the school community has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the press release, that person is under self-isolation, and Interior Health is contact tracing to alert parents and guardians of any students at risk to also self-isolate.

The Interior Health website displays exposure dates at Barriere Secondary School as Jan. 4, 5 and 8, the first week of school after the winter holiday break.

The warning will remain on the Interior Health website for 14 days until the risk of infection is clear, and Interior Health reminds those who are experiencing symptoms to self-isolate.

It is not clear yet whether the infected individual was a student or a staff member.

Barriere Secondary School is one of ten schools in the Interior Health region to show exposure warnings after the winter break including three in Kelowna and two in Vernon.
