BC psychologist pleads guilty to indecent public act

A BC psychologist has pleaded guilty after being charged with committing an indecent act in a public place.

Registered psychologist James Blackburn pleaded guilty, Jan. 29, in a Courtenay courtroom having been charged in May 2025.

Details of what took place aren’t known, but the incident took place in Courtenay on Feb. 17, 2025.

Earlier this month, the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC issued a public notice saying that Blackburn’s license was suspended pending the outcome of the charge.

“The (College) found an order suspending (Blackburn’s) registration was necessary to protect the public during the investigation of this matter,” the public notice reads.

The regulator says Blackburn worked between New Westminster and Courtenay.

Blackburn’s LinkedIn says he has worked at West Coast Psychological Services since the late 90s, as well as a position at the University of the Fraser Valley between 2002 and 2006. He specializes in neuropsychology, psychological assessments and learning disabilities assessments.

Blackburn does not have a criminal record in BC.

Following his guilty plea, Blackburn will be sentenced sometime in the future.
