When to cheer for these Olympians from Vernon and Salmon Arm

In the Milano Cortina winter games there are two Olympians from Salmon Arm and one from Vernon competing and they have a few events left to tune into.

Salmon Arm speed skating siblings Laura and Daniel Hall are sharpening their skates and skier Elena Gaskell of Vernon is getting ready for some airtime. There are 35 athletes from BC who qualified to be part of Team Canada this year.

Laura Hall already competed in the women’s 3,000 metre race where she placed 13. Her next event is the 5,000 m race at 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 12 then the 1,500 m at 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 20. Her last race is the mass start at 6:50 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Daniel Hall is set to compete in the men’s 10,000 m at 7 a.m. on Feb. 13, the 1,500 m at 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 and the mass start at 6 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Vernon’s Elena Gaskell competed in the women’s freeski slopestyle where she placed 23 but you can still root for her in the big air qualifiers at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 14.

Gaskell is making her Olympic comeback after a knee injury prevented her from competing in Beijing in 2022.

Kelowna’s Tess Critchlow had to withdraw from the games due to an injury but she had strong performances at PyeongChang in 2018 and Beijing in 2022.
