FRISCO — Canada’s Denis Shapovalov fired 22 aces en route to downing American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday at the Dallas Open tennis tournament.
Shapovalov, the seventh seed from Richmond Hill, Ont., was dominant on his serve with only one double fault in the match. Kovacevic had just four aces to go with a pair of double faults.
Shapovalov also had the lone break of the contest.
Shapovalov takes on third-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain in a quarterfinal match Friday.
