Kamloops man stabbed breaking up fight between his neighbours

A 55-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed trying to break up a fight between two of his neighbours Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to an assault with a weapon report at around 5 p.m., Feb. 25, in the 1800 block of Parkcrest Avenue, according to an RCMP media release.

A 27-year-old man had been in a fight with a family member when the 55-year-old neighbour heard the fracas and tried to break up the fight and was stabbed.

The fight was between two family members and the victim knew them, RCMP said.

“The suspect retreated to a trailer on the property and barricaded himself inside. Following a short negotiation, the suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody,” Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in the release.

The 55-year-old good Samaritan who was stabbed ended up in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, Scott Marcus Mullaney, is in custody charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and assaulting a police officer, according to court documents. He is scheduled to be back in court next week for a bail hearing.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2026-5751.
