REVELSTOKE — A snowboarder has been killed in an avalanche near Pemberton, B.C., the third such death this month.
Avalanche Canada says the boarder died on Tuesday after triggering a so-called wind-slab avalanche near Anniversary Glacier, about 26 kilometres east of Pemberton.
The organization’s report says a witness to the slide tried to rescue the person, but it was Pemberton Search and Rescue who found the snowboarder later Tuesday.
The latest avalanche comes amid heavy snowfall in the area, including in Whistler to the south, where Environment Canada reported 24 cm of snow on Monday.
A heli-skier was killed last Thursday in a slide near Revelstoke, B.C., while skiing with three others and a guide in the backcountry.
On Feb. 17, a snowmobiler was killed near Fernie in southeastern B.C. after triggering an avalanche while climbing a slope towards a ridge.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Feb. 25, 2026.
