COVID-19 outbreak at Kamloops’s Royal Inland Hospital

Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The outbreak is on Unit 6 South at Royal Inland Hospital, and as of this morning, six patients and two staff members have tested positive for the virus, according to an Interior Health media release.

Patients that have tested positive have been relocated to the hospital's COVID unit.

Unit 6 South, the surgical unit, is currently continuing surgeries at this time, but post-surgery care will take place on a different floor, Interior Health said. Further admissions are closed on this unit until further notice.

Interior Health insists that the hospital is still safe for appointments or emergency care, self-isolation after visiting is not required.

"Our staff and physicians have worked hard to keep COVID-19 out of the hospital, which was no simple feat considering the number of communities served by RIH,” IH medical health officer Dr. Carol Fenton said in the release.

The hospital is now working to contain the outbreak.
