iN NUMBERS: Kamloops MLA in tight BC Conservative leadership race

When former BC Conservative leader John Rustad was pushed to step down it became open season for the right-wing throne.

There isn’t a clear choice yet, but Kamloops Centre MLA Peter Milobar is in the lead among current MLAs in the race for the party leadership.

Here are the numbers from a newly released Research Co. poll:

  • 9: People are vying for the BC Conservative leadership.
  • 3: Candidates for leadership job are currently MLAs.
  • 20: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they would vote for the BC Conservatives with Milobar at the helm. The highest polling for any of the MLAs in the running for the job.
  • 25: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they would vote for BC Conservatives if former grocery store executive Darrell Jones is chosen as leader of the party.
  • 8: Points separated the race leader, Darrell Jones, from MLA Harman Bhangu who placed last in the poll.
  • 23: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they would vote for the BC Conservatives if John Rustad was still the leader.
  • 38: Per cent of British Columbians polled know who Peter Milobar is. Only Darrell Jones and John Rustad had better name recognition among British Columbians who were asked.
  • 44: Per cent of British Columbians polled know who Darrell Jones is.
  • 31: Per cent of survey respondents said a Rustad-led government would do better at managing the $13 billion provincial budget deficit.
  • 37: Per cent of respondents said the current NDP government under David Eby handles health care better than a Rustad-led government would.
  • 86: Days, as of March 5, until the BC Conservatives announce a new leader.
