Lumby shooting victim dies in hospital

The 60-year-old man shot in Lumby last week has died in hospital.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired on Schwartz Road in Lumby around 4:20 p.m. on March 3, according to a press release from police.

Officers found Corey Ott, 60, with a gunshot wound. Ott was taken to hospital and went through surgery, but he died on March 6.

Police had arrested a suspect shortly after the shooting and said the person was scheduled to appear in court, but then the suspect was later released without charges.

Sgt. Kris Clark said a court date is often set before the BC Prosecution approves a charge, and in this case the suspect wasn’t charged.

“They would have been released on court-compelling documents, but not a charge,” Sgt. Kris Clark told iNFOnews.ca. “Even though the person may have a court date, the Crown can also quash that date and push it back.”

Clark did not provide additional details.

Now, police are asking anyone who spoke with Ott or had dealings with him leading up to his death to contact the Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.

Anyone with video or dash camera footage from the Lumby area on March 3, 2026, between noon and 8:00 p.m. has also been asked to contact the Major Crime Unit.
