Stanton homers twice, Blue Jays fall 8-1 to Yankees in spring training game

TAMPA — Giancarlo Stanton hit a pair of home runs for the New York Yankees in an 8-1 spring training win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Stanton clouted a two-run homer in a four-run third inning and added a solo shot in the sixth at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla.

New York’s Trent Grisham and Randal Grichuk each hit an RBI double in the third inning. Jonathan Ornelas homered in the sixth and Cole Gabrielson in the eighth.

Toronto’s lone run came in the top of the fourth when a Jesús Sánchez double scored Nathan Lukes to trail 4-1.

Toronto’s starter Eric Lauer gave up four runs on four hits and walked one over 3.1 innings of work. Reliever Lázaro Estrada allowed three runs on four hits and walked one in 1.2 innings.

Toronto’s spring record dropped to 7-9. The Yankees improved to 12-6. The Blue Jays face the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.
