iN NUMBERS: How people in B.C. feel about the Iran war

The majority of people in B.C. don’t want Canada to get involved in the Iran war, but they have been following the war closely, at least according to a recent survey done by Angus Reid.

Most British Columbians have already had to make changes because of rising gas prices caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz

Here are the numbers: 

  • 66: Per cent of British Columbians polled said rising gas prices have affected their household finances.
  • 42: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they are driving less and combining trips more. 
  • 16: Per cent of British Columbians polled are cutting back spending in other areas to be able to afford fuel. 
  • 76: Per cent of British Columbians polled have been following the war in Iran closely.
  • 75: Per cent of British Columbians polled said Canada’s military should not be involved in the Iran war. 
  • 9: Per cent of British Columbians polled support Canada’s military getting involved in the Iran war. 
  • 5: Per cent of BCers polled said Canada’s military should support the war with intelligence and cybersecurity, which was the most popular option for military involvement. 
  • 83: Per cent of Liberal voters have been following the war closely. 
  • 73: Per cent of Conservative voters have been following the war closely. 
  • 87: Per cent of men over 55 years old have been following the war closely, the highest rate out of any demographic.
