RCMP search for a driver in bizarre crash investigation

VERNON – RCMP have a mystery on their hands after officers showed up at a car crash on Silver Star Road on the weekend to find the vehicle upside down and running, but no sign of the driver.

The driver of a Toyota Corolla hit a power pole around 3:40 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21. The car flipped into the ditch, coming to rest on its roof.

North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the Corolla is most likely a write-off,

He says the car was still running when police arrived but no one was around. Officers searched the area but couldn’t find anyone and attempts to contact the registered owner of the vehicle have been unsuccessful.

“After doing some follow-up, there is some indication the vehicle may have been driven by a friend who was under the influence,” Molendyk says.

Both the RCMP and ICBC continue to investigate.
