iN NUMBERS: B.C. Premier David Eby’s popularity plummeting

If you spend a lot of time on social media you might think the whole world hates Premier David Eby, but social media tends to promote clickable negativity.

Angus Reid found that while not everyone dislikes the B.C. premier, his approval rating has dropped significantly over the past year.

The polling firm correlated Eby’s recent drop in popularity with the controversy around the Musqueam Indian Band agreement with the federal government and the current budget deficit.

Here are the numbers from the survey to see how Eby stacks up against other provincial leaders:

  • 37: Per cent. That’s Eby’s approval rating.
  • 53: Per cent. That was Eby’s approval rating a year ago when the country was going “elbows up” in response to Trump’s tariffs.
  • 7: Per cent of BCers polled said they strongly approve of Eby, while 29 per cent said they moderately approve.
  • 37: Per cent of BC respondents said they strongly disapprove of Eby and 20 per cent just moderately disapprove of him.
  • 2: Premiers are less popular than Eby, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Quebec Premier François Legault.
  • 61: Per cent is Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew’s approval rating, the highest in the country.
  • 26: Per cent is François Legault’s approval rating, the lowest in the country.
  • 44: Per cent of Albertans polled strongly disapprove of Premier Danielle Smith.
  • 34: Per cent of respondents said they have a favourable view of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre. Maybe his appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcasts might help.
  • 59: Per cent of respondents said they have a positive view of Prime Minister Mark Carney.
