West Kelowna firefighters were called to two house fires around an hour apart early Sunday morning.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue were called to a single-family home ablaze in Sunnyside at 5:15 a.m., March 22, according to a press release from the fire department.
While firefighters were at the first fire, a call came in for a second single-family home on fire at 6:30 a.m. on Old Boucherie Road. When firefighters arrived at the second scene they found the home engulfed in flames.
A fire engine from the Kelowna Fire Department was sent out to assist.
Everyone made it out uninjured from both fires, but both homes were badly damaged. Since the homes were so badly burnt when they arrived, fire crews weren’t able to go inside until the fires were out.
“Having two significant fire events take place at nearly the same time is very rare, however it is not believed the fires are related in any manner,” fire chief Jason Brolund said in the release.
Brolund said both fires appear accidental and they aren’t suspicious, but the exact causes haven’t been determined yet.
