Scheifele leads the battle as Jets outduel Golden Knights 4-1

WINNIPEG — Mark Scheifele registered a goal and two assists and added a second-period fighting major to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in front of 13,478 fans at Canada Life Centre Tuesday night.

Kyle Connor, who added an assist for a two-point night, Alex Iafallo and Cole Perfetti also scored for Winnipeg (30-29-12), which snapped a five-game home losing streak against Vegas.

Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves to snap a personal six-game winless streak against the Golden Knights.

Colton Sissons scored the lone goal for Vegas (32-26-14), converting on the power play. Adin Hill stopped 17 shots.

Vegas went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Winnipeg went 0-for-4.

TAKEAWAYS

Jets: Early in the second period, Iafallo and Perfetti found the back of the net just 118 seconds apart, giving the Jets a commanding 3-0 lead and shifting momentum heavily in their favour.

Golden Knights: Vegas has now connected on the power play in three consecutive games after Sissons converted on the man-advantage in the second period.

KEY MOMENT

Scheifele dropped the gloves with Brett Howden late in the second period — in what was just his 10th career fight — to give the Jets an emotional spark heading into the final frame.

Connor’s first-period goal gave him a point in 30 home games this year, extending his NHL-leading mark for the most home games with at least one point this season.
