Man with a loaded handgun arrested at SkyTrain station in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY — Transit Police in Metro Vancouver say one person has been arrested after a routine sweep to make sure riders had paid their fares found a man allegedly carrying a loaded gun.

Police say officers were checking passengers for fares at the Gateway SkyTrain Station in Surrey, B.C., around 10 a.m. on Monday.

They say they spotted the 55-year after he followed another passenger through the gates without paying.

Police say the resulting “interaction,” which was not described in the news release, revealed he had several outstanding warrants, and a loaded handgun and ammunition.

They say the man has been charged with one count of possession of a loaded or restricted firearm.

The release says the man remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
