Canada thumped 8-3 by Scotland at men’s world curling championship
OGDEN — Canada’s Matt Dunstone suffered his first loss at the world men’s curling championship with a 8-3 defeat to Scotland’s Ross Whyte in Saturday’s afternoon draw.
Scotland (1-2) took an early lead with a deuce in the first end followed by steals of one in the second and third.
Dunstone got two back in the fourth, but Whyte took a commanding 7-2 lead with three in the fifth.
The teams shook hands after trading points over the next two ends.
Dunstone’s Winnipeg team, representing Canada for the first time at the world championship, opened the tournament with wins over South Korea and Italy on Friday.
Canada (2-1) will next face the United States on Sunday.
Sweden leads the tournament at 3-0 after posting a 9-2 win over China. Japan, Switzerland and Germany, who were all idle Saturday afternoon, are next at 2-0.
