CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Axel Hurtig to a three-year entry-level contract, the NHL club announced Wednesday.
The deal carries an average annual value of US$990,000.
The 20-year-old Swede had a career-best 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 64 regular-season games as captain of the Calgary Hitmen this season.
He has a goal and two assists so far in the Western Hockey League’s playoffs as the Hitmen have a 3-0 lead over Brandon heading into Game 4 of their first-round series Thursday.
Hurtig was selected by the Flames in the seventh round (208th overall) of the 2023 NHL draft.
He represented Sweden at the 2025 world junior hockey championship.
