Man dies after being found gravely injured in Surrey, B.C., homicide probe underway

SURREY — Homicide investigators are looking into the death of a man who was found gravely injured in Surrey, B.C., late Wednesday and later died in hospital.

Surrey police say they were called about the injured man around 9 p.m. to the area of 97 Avenue and 134 Street.

Police didn’t specify the type of injuries, but say paramedics took the man to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have identified the victim as 34-year-old Matthew Neely of Surrey.

They say that the death appears to have been isolated and may have stemmed from a verbal dispute.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case, and police are urging anyone with information — including those who had contact with the victim recently — to contact them.
