CF Montréal fires head coach Marco Donadel after ugly start to season

MONTRÉAL — CF Montréal fired head coach Marco Donadel on Sunday after an ugly start to the Major League Soccer season.

Montreal lost for the sixth time in seven games to begin the 2026 campaign Saturday, falling 2-1 to the Philadelphia Union in its home opener at Stade Saputo.

No players or coaches were made available to reporters after the loss.

Philippe Eullaffroy will replace Donadel on an interim basis while assistant coaches Jacopo Falanga and Lorenzo Pinzauti have also been let go, the club announced.

Donadel’s tenure as head coach lasted just over a year, having replaced Laurent Courtois on March 24, 2025. CF Montréal posted a 7-20-9 record in MLS under his watch.

Donadel was CF Montréal’s 11th head coach since the club joined MLS in 2012.
