UPDATE: Fire crews extinguish Kamloops house fire

Kamloops fire crews have extinguished a house fire in Aberdeen this afternoon, and are currently in the mop up stage.

"At this point we're asking the public to stay clear of the area until we're fully disengaged from the fire overhaul (mop up)," Kamloops Fire and Rescue chief Steve Robinson said.

The blaze was at a home on Westerdale Drive in the Aberdeen area of Kamloops this afternoon, Feb. 12.

Robinson says the fire department received a 911 call from a citizen regarding smoke in the area at about 12:15p.m.

The call was upgraded to a second alarm after firefighters arrived at the scene, and more equipment was called in, according to Robinson.

The investigation is very preliminary, Robinson said, so the cause and extent of damage are unknown.
