Coquihalla Highway re-opens

AVALANCHE CLEARED, HIGHWAY SAFE

KELOWNA – The Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Hope has re-opened to traffic.

The avalanche control and highway clearing work has been finished.

The Ministry of Transportation says an assessment Saturday morning by avalanche technicians determined that the avalanche control work was successful.

Highway maintenance crews worked all night to clear the highway.

An avalanche closed the Coq on Thursday morning after a storm cycle dumped over 3 m of snow on the route in a week. The highway hadn’t seen these severe avalanche conditions since it was built 27 years ago.

For the latest highway conditions check the Drive B.C. website.
