Interior Health declares outbreak at Merritt long-term care facility
Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care facility in Merritt after one resident tested positive for the virus.
All staff and residents in contact with the resident at The Florentine are monitoring for symptoms of the virus while in self isolation, according to an Interior Health press release issued today, Feb. 18.
The private long-term care facility has beds for 38 residents in assisted living and 24 in long-term care. Interior Health says they are supporting the sight as it implements additional outbreak measures.
Except for end of life, all visits are suspended at The Florentine until Interior Health declares the outbreak over.
"Interior Health continues to take steps to protect the health of all staff, individuals in care and families at long-term care homes whether they are privately or publicly operated," the release reads.
