May brings better weather
May 1 is considered the safe date if you are gardening in Kamloops – statistically the risk for frost is over for the season, and looking at the forecast frost is one of the last things we need to worry about right now. For those who do plan on putting in their garden this week be sure to use lots of sunscreen and drink lots of water – we are exepecting lots of sun and temperatures as high as 30 degrees Celcius by Monday.
At 17 degrees Celcius by mid-afternoon on Wednesday people have been flooding to Pioneer Park and Riverside Park downtown to enjoy the sunshine. The city opened washrooms at all city parks by mid-April and the tennis courts, soccer fields and baseball diamonds are all in operation and being well-utilized.
At this time of year the normal temperature high at the airport is 20 C but most of the last week has struggled to hit even 14 C. A mix of rain and snow at the higher elevations in the city also had people using Twitter to bemoan Mother Nature over the weekend.
Enivornment Canada is now calling for highs of 18 and 17 over the next two days with a steady increase to well above seasonal normals over the weekend. By Monday it is expected to reach an unseasonal high of 30 C.
Wunderground is expecting very similar temperatures at the higher elevations of Upper Sahali, with a forecast high of 28 C for Monday.
