Auger-Aliassime rides dominant second set to win over Kopriva at Hamburg Open

HAMBURG — Top-seeded Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Czechia’s Vit Kopriva on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old from Montreal took the competitive first set when he scored the first break of the match in the final game.

Auger-Aliassime then dominated the second set, scoring breaks in the second and fourth games en route to a 5-0 lead.

After Kopriva held serve, Auger-Aliassime opened the decisive game with his eighth ace of the match before wrapping up the victory in one hour 25 minutes.

Auger-Aliassime will next face American lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic at the ATP 500 clay-court tournament.

The Canadian, ranked fifth in the world, is looking for a good run on clay in Hamburg before the French Open main draw, which begins Sunday.
