Car thief nabbed after visit to Kamloops RCMP detachment

A 40-year-old man is facing several charges after he visited the Kamloops RCMP detachment last week driving a stolen car.

A man was at the detachment at around 4 p.m., May 15, on an unrelated and non-criminal matter, and when he jumped into a white Honda CR-V to leave police noticed a “regulatory infraction” and tried to stop him, according to an RCMP media release.

The suspect drove into a residential neighbourhood with RCMP in pursuit but the chase was called off out of concerns for public safety.

Two days later, officers knocked on the suspect’s door and arrested him. They found the stolen CR-V that had been stolen in Kamloops earlier this month.

A search of his home turned up a suppressor for a firearm and other items, RCMP said.

Sean Kevin Goudie, born in 1986, has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a prohibited device knowing it is unauthorized and mischief in relation to the lawful use of property.

RCMP don’t say what the prohibited device was.

Goudie remains in custody and will be back before a judge next week.
