Ticats sign star receiver Kenny Lawler to extension through 2028 season

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed star wide receiver Kenny Lawler to a contract extension through the 2028 season, the CFL club announced Tuesday.

The 31-year-old earned league and East Division all-star honours last season.

He recorded 86 receptions for 1,443 yards, the fifth-highest one-season total in franchise history, and 14 touchdowns in 18 regular-season games.

Lawler has played 81 CFL regular-season games with Hamilton, Winnipeg, and Edmonton, amassing 342 receptions for 5,551 yards and 39 touchdowns.

He is a two-time league all-star, three-time divisional all-star and won Grey Cup titles with Winnipeg in 2019 and 2021.

Before the CFL, Lawler spent two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft.

He played four years of college football at the University of California, Berkeley, where his 27 touchdown receptions were second-most in school history.

Riders bring back offensive lineman Klassen

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian offensive lineman Connor Klassen for a second stint with the team.

Klassen previously spent the 2022 season on the Roughriders’ practice roster as a territorial junior while playing for the Regina Thunder.

Following his time with the Thunder, Klassen joined the University of Regina and helped the Rams win the 2024 Hardy Cup, awarded to the Canada West champions.

He was selected by the B.C. Lions in the fourth round (37th overall) of the 2025 CFL draft, but missed the season due to injury.
