Senior run down in Vancouver vehicle rampage dies in hospital
VANCOUVER — Vancouver police say a senior citizen has died in hospital more than a week after they were knocked from a mobility scooter when a vehicle sped through the city’s West End, crashing into trees, a police car and other obstacles.
Police say prosecutors have been informed of the death on Sunday for consideration of additional charges against the suspect, who was already facing four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
Two officers were also hurt in the May 15 rampage that destroyed a police cruiser and downed trees.
Police previously said the 34-year-old suspect had had “extensive interactions with police” in both B.C. and Saskatchewan.
The two officers were treated and released on the same day of the crash, while a fourth person the driver allegedly attempted to hit escaped uninjured.
Police say the suspect remains in custody.
