Canada’s Dabrowski falls short of French Open mixed doubles title

PARIS — Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski fell short in the mixed doubles final at the French Open on Thursday.

Dabrowski and American partner Evan King dropped a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 decision to top-seeded Italians Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

Errani and Vavassori became the first team since 2019 to successfully defend the Roland Garros mixed doubles title. It was also their fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles championship together.

“What can I say?” Errani said during the trophy ceremony. “I’m still living this dream that is never-ending.”

Dabrowski and King, playing together for the first time this year, advanced to the final with a semifinal victory over Croatia’s Nikola Mektic and American Asia Muhammad.

“You guys are amazing for the sport and inspirations,” King said to the Italian pair during the on-court ceremony. “I wish we would beat you, but you guys are just really good.”

For King, the loss marked a second straight defeat to Errani and Vavassori in the French Open mixed doubles final. He was runner-up alongside Taylor Townsend in 2025.

The 33-year-old Dabrowski was seeking her third Grand Slam mixed doubles title after winning the 2017 French Open with India’s Rohan Bopanna and the 2018 Australian Open with Croatia’s Mate Pavic.

Dabrowski still has a chance to leave Roland Garros with a title in women’s doubles alongside Brazil’s Luisa Stefani.

The fourth-seeded pair will face top-seeded Katerina Siniakova of Czechia and Townsend in the semifinals. Dabrowski and former partner Erin Routliffe defeated Siniakova and Townsend to win the 2025 U.S. Open women’s doubles title.

Dabrowski has never reached a women’s doubles final at Roland Garros.
