Boy’s birthday party disrupted by man with gun

MERRITT – A ten-year-old Merritt boy’s birthday celebration was interrupted Friday, when a man wielding a gun decided to stop in.

The birthday boy and his friends were playing hide-and-go-seek at the family home, when he noticed a man with a gun looking in his father’s truck at around 5:45 p.m. The boy told his father the man had then pointed the gun at them.

The boy’s father drove down the alley, on Coldwater Ave. to investigate the matter. He reported to police that when he approached, the male turned and pointed a long barrel gun with a scope at him.

The father said that he ran from the suspect, and watched from a safe distance as the man walked away, staggering as though possibly intoxicated.

RCMP police dog services and Forensic Identification Services attended the scene, but were unable to locate the suspect.

No one was injured during the incident, and no damage was done to the vehicle.

Anyone who may have information about the suspect are asked to call the Merritt police.
