First of two COVID-19 outbreaks at Kelowna General Hospital declared over

The COVID-19 outbreak in unit 4B at Kelowna General Hospital has now been declared over.

A total of seven cases – six patients and one staff – and two deaths were linked to the outbreak on this unit, Interior Health said in a press release.

Yesterday, March 6, the health authority announced a second outbreak affecting one patient and one staff member in Unit 5B.

“There is no evidence of COVID-19 transmission to other areas of the hospital at this time,” Interior Health said in a statement.

"The two currently are not connected," Dr. Albert De Villiers, Interior Health chief medical health officer said today in a press conference about the upcoming immunization rollout.

"We have done some contact tracing and found out that there was no staff crossover and no patient crossover between the two. So the two are practically not connected at this point."
