MEXICO CITY – An explosion in the basement of a building next to the headquarters of Mexico’s state-owned oil company in the capital left several workers injured Thursday, the company said.
Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, said workers have been evacuated from the building. A reporter at the scene saw rescue workers trying to free several workers trapped in the building.
Local media reported that at least one person had died. Television images showed people being evacuated on office chairs, and gurneys. Most of them showed injuries likely caused by falling debris.
Pemex said in a Tweet that several workers were injured in the blast but no one answered at its offices.
