Canadian Pacific hires former CN operations chief as Harrison’s second-in-command

CALGARY – Canadian Pacific (TSX:CP) has hired a senior executive of rival Canadian National Railway (TSX:CNR) to be second-in-command to CEO Hunter Harrison.

Harrison is the former CN chief executive who was brought out of retirement last year by a U.S. fund manager to shake up operations at Canadian Pacific.

Harrison announced Monday that CP now is putting another former CN senior executive in place to be president and chief operating officer. He starts work with CP on Tuesday.

Keith Creel has been an executive vice-president and the COO at Montreal-based Canadian National since 2010.

Creel was also previously with Burlington Northern Sante Fe, another of North America’s top-tier railways.

Canadian National acknowledged Creel’s departure in a separate announcement and said it has resolved an legal dispute that arose after Harrison joined CP.
