Another mysterious explosion site in Penticton, this time near an elementary school

Police in Penticton have found another blast site linked to a series of mysterious explosions recently and it was not far from an elementary school.

RCMP say the investigation into the blasts from improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, in Penticton continues. There have been no arrests and no mention of suspects by police.

Local RCMP officers, with assistance of officers from the explosives disposal unit, identified another blast scene on March 8, according to an RCMP media release. It's close to Carmi Elementary School near the creek bed at Industrial Avenue East and Main Street. Officers remain on the scene today, March 11, collecting evidence.

"The nearby elementary school has been engaged, with students remaining in class," Grandy says in the release. "The immediate area has been cordoned off, and we want to assure the public our detachment is devoting many resources to bring this case to a safe conclusion.”

Each of the explosions has occurred late in the evening or into early morning hours. RCMP say more explosions could have taken place over the past several weeks but weren’t reported.
