Saskatchewan Premier Wall to tout clean coal projects in Washington trip

EDMONTON – Saskatchewan’s premier says he’s going to Washington to not only urge U.S. lawmakers to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, but also to highlight green initiatives taking place in his province.

Brad Wall says Saskatchewan is making strides in clean coal technology, and says that needs to be made clear.

Wall made the comments after meeting in Edmonton with Alberta Premier Alison Redford.

The premiers met to compare notes on ways to get their message across on the importance of Keystone, which would ship bitumen from Alberta’s oilsands through Saskatchewan to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Redford was in Washington, D.C., last weekend for a meeting with U.S. governors to explain what Alberta is doing to beef up environmental monitoring.

Protesters in the United States are urging President Barack Obama to reject Keystone over fears it would contribute to global warming.
