Police investigate after shots fired in Vernon, where man arrested with rifle

VERNON, B.C. – RCMP are on the scene of what appears to be a serious incident in Vernon, B.C.

Spokesman Gord Molendyk says police responded to a report of shots fired at about 1 a.m. today, but further details aren’t being provided.

Around the same time in nearby Cherryville, Mounties arrested a man who was driving around with a loaded rifle.

Molendyk says an officer responded to a call about a possible impaired driver when he pulled the vehicle over and saw a rifle leaning on the front seat.

Two passengers were released, but a 34-year-old man is facing impaired driving and firearms charges.

Meanwhile, Vernon Mounties say speed and alcohol are likely factors in a crash that killed a 33-year-old man who was thrown from his pickup truck on Sunday night. (CKFR)
