Prince George neighbourhood endures 12-hour lockdown during police manhunt

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Residents of about 50 homes in Prince George, B.C., spent an uncomfortable night as they waited for permission to return to their properties.

The residents, and those in another 50 homes in the Quinson neighbourhood of the northern B.C. city, were ordered out at around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Corp. Craig Douglass says a wanted man was believed to be hiding in the area, prompting the North District Emergency Response Team to surround one house and lockdown the entire neighbourhood.

Families in about 50 of the homes farthest from the police action were allowed to return by about 10 Tuesday night, but the remaining 50 homeowners did not get the all-clear until 3:30 Wednesday morning.

That was after Mounties had entered the suspect home and arrested a 30-year-old man who was considered armed and dangerous.

Douglass says Robert Lee Milligan was taken into custody without incident, several firearms and a quantity of illegal drugs were seized, and Milligan is expected to appear in a Prince George courtroom sometime Wednesday.
