20 years of snubbing B.C. Liberals enough for former leader Gordon Wilson
POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Former Liberal leader Gordon Wilson says it’s time to come home to the B.C. Liberal party.
Wilson, who now lives on the Sunshine Coast, north of Vancouver, has announced he is rejoining the party he quit in 1993.
He says he decided to take an active role in the Liberal re-election bid after NDP Leader Adrian Dix firmly opposed any expansion of the Kinder Morgan oil pipeline across southern British Columbia.
Wilson is credited with leading the provincial Liberals out of obscurity in 1987, but left the party after a dispute in 1993, to form the Progressive Democratic Alliance, which he headed until 1999.
He then jumped to the provincial New Democrats, serving on the front benches in several ministries, including finance, before making an unsuccessful bid for the NDP leadership in 2000.
Wilson says it has been 20 years since he has called himself a Liberal and he believes all voters should join him and “come home.” (CFAX)
