TORONTO – After two years of deliberations, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan announced Tuesday that Ron Mock will be its next president and chief executive when Jim Leech retires in December.
Mock is currently the pension manager’s senior vice-president of fixed income and alternative investments. His replacement in that role hasn’t been announced.
Leech is retiring on Dec. 31, 2013, after six years as chief executive and more than 12 years at Teachers — one of Canada’s largest investment pools.
A selection committee had been searching for a replacement in anticipation of Leech’s retirement since 2011.
The fund, which manages around $129.5 billion in assets, administers the pensions of 303,000 active and retired teachers in Ontario.
Last month, Teachers’ closed its purchase of SeaCube Container Leasing Ltd., a company that leases shopping containers, in a deal valued at US$1.8 billion.
