Head of Library and Archives resigns after billing taxpayers for Spanish lessons
OTTAWA – The head of Library and Archives Canada is saying adios to his job.
Daniel Caron has resigned after billing taxpayers nearly $4,500 for personal Spanish lessons.
Heritage Minister James Moore told the House of Commons he would speak with Caron after news of the spending came to light earlier this month.
In a statement, Moore’s office wished Caron well and thanked him for his work.
The library had said the lessons were in compliance with contracting guidelines.
A spokesperson for the library said Caron took the lessons so he could have a basic level of Spanish for conferences.
