RCMP officer charged with dangerous and impaired driving in West Vancouver

WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. – An RCMP officer has been charged with dangerous and impaired driving after witnesses in West Vancouver reported seeing a vehicle lose control, hit a median and land in a ditch.

West Vancouver Const. Jeff Palmer says 47-year-old Victor Joseph Cunha is also accused of driving with a blood-alcohol limit above the legal limit when he was arrested last November.

Palmer says a police investigation resulted in charges being recommended against Cunha, who was off-duty when the single-vehicle crash occurred.

The Mountie, whose rank has not been released, is scheduled to make his first court appearance in North Vancouver on June 26.
