Vancouver gunman targets pedestrians, grazing one, before shooting himself

VANCOUVER – A gunman opened fire on a Vancouver street late Thursday night, targeting two pedestrians before turning the gun on himself.

Vancouver Police say they have no idea why the 34-year-old, who remains in critical condition in hospital, suddenly jumped from a car on Main Street near 26 Avenue and began shooting.

One person was grazed by a bullet and the second pedestrian was not hurt in the incident that occurred just after 11 p.m.

Const. Brian Montague says the suspect, who hasn’t been named, is known to police, but Montague could not say if the man has a criminal record.

Montague also notes the two apparent targets of the gunfire have no relationship to the gunman or to each other, and the attack appears entirely random.

He says officers will speak with other witnesses today, in hopes of determining what led to the shooting. (CKNW)
