KELOWNA, B.C. – B.C. Premier Christy Clark says she has been campaigning just as hard in the Kelowna byelection as she was during the May provincial election, and isn’t taking anything for granted.
The premier says she wants to earn every vote in tomorrow’s byelection from West Kelowna’s residents in her bid to return to British Columbia’s legislature.
While Clark led the Liberals to a fourth consecutive mandate, she lost her own seat in Vancouver-Point Grey in the May 14 election.
Former Liberal cabinet minister Ben Stewart, who easily won Westside-Kelowna riding during the election with 58 per cent of the vote, stepped down to allow Clark to run in what is considered safe Liberal territory.
Clark says if she’s elected as Westside-Kelowna’s new member of the legislature her goals for local residents include improving traffic congestion, expanding the area’s health care facilities and laying plans for a second bridge crossing over Okanagan Lake.
Clark and seven other candidates, including New Democrat challenger Carole Gordon, are on the ballot.
