Father and son injured in boat explosion

PORT MCNEILL, B.C. – The RCMP say a father and son are recovering after an explosion on their boat in Port McNeil, B.C., on Monday.

Police say the large pleasure craft was fuelling up at a dock when the explosion occurred, causing the engine compartment door and the windows of the boat to blow out, as well as the windows of the fuel station.

Officials say the father suffered more significant burns than the son, but not life threatening, and both were transported to hospital for treatment.

Police say the attendant at the fuel dock also sustained minor injuries from flying glass shards.

The RCMP are still investigating the cause of the explosion, which originated in the engine room.

Police say they consider it an accident.
