ICC says Hot Spot to remain in place for final 2 Ashes tests despite criticism of technology

CHESTER-LE-STREET, England – The much-criticized Hot Spot technology will remain in place for the final two tests of the Ashes series following a meeting between the International Cricket Council and representatives from the England and Australia teams.

The Decision Review System, which includes the use of Hot Spot’s thermal-imaging cameras, has come under fire after several contentious calls in the opening three tests of the series.

ICC general manager Geoff Allardice says in a statement Thursday that “DRS has not performed as effectively … as it has in other series” but both England and Australia “reiterate their support for the use of DRS.”

The ICC said Wednesday it wouldn’t be investigating claims by Australian broadcaster Channel Nine that silicon tape might have been attached to the edges of bats “to fool” the DRS.
